For those of you still using computers that run on Windows XP, here is a link to a story giving a few more details about what to expect on 8 April 2014:
Your computer will not stop working, but the operating system is very long in the tooth, with known security issues. Using it to browse the internet is inviting trouble, even if you are very vigilant and/or tech savvy.
You are also probably using XP on older hardware that may have seen better days. Time to upgrade? If you can afford to do so, investing $500 to $1,000 will get you some excellent products. I prefer Dell, and you can see their latest promotions from me at this link:

Don’t have the money to invest in a new system? Investigating some of the Linux operating systems might help breathe some new life into your existing hardware. You would have to get used to that environment, but the learning curve is not as steep, in my opinion, as going from Windows to an Apple environment; and certainly less expensive. I also grant you that moving to Linux involves getting your existing data into other programs. Should you be using XP for ‘normal’ daily tasks with Microsoft Office programs, email, web browsing, photo and/or music editing, you will find the transition very easy. Those of you with specialized programs, like accounting, or games, or specialty database systems such as a genealogy program, may have to look a little harder at finding a Linux substitute.
